Puttu is a traditional Kerala breakfast recipe made using rice flour and coconut. Puttu is so easy to prepare that it will be ready within 10 minutes. Plain Rice Puttu recipe will contain only rice flour, grated coconut and salt. However, you will be able to find many variations of puttu in Kerala.

The first division of different types of Puttu will be in terms of it’s shape. ‘Normal Puttu’ or ‘Kutti Puttu’ which has a cylindrical shape is the most common one. The next is Chiratta Puttu, as shown in this video. Traditionally, Chiratta Puttu is prepared using an empty coconut shell. But, now a days you can easily find a Chiratta Puttu maker in the market. This video shows how to prepare Chiratta Puttu in a steel puttu maker.

In addition to the basic ingredients, cumin seeds are added in order to enhance the flavour of the puttu.
